The definition of astrology is the study of the positions and aspects of celestial bodies in the belief that they have an influence on the course of natural earthly occurrences and human affairs.

•           There are different types of Chinese astrology methods that affect the individual person:
  • Chinese Horoscope. This is the most popular method based on animal signs. This method assigns a different animal sign for every year, which repeats in a 12-year cycle. Generally, it ascribes different characteristics to a person born under a particular animal sign. This method makes it possible to make a forecast of the coming years as well as the love astrology of each person based on a formula of compatibilities and incompatibilities between animal signs, the position of the planet Jupiter and certain elements of the “Purple Star Astrology System.”
     
  • Chinese Almanac. Based on the “Book of Auspicious Days,” this is based on a list of astrological information for each day of the year. According to this book, certain days are either lucky or unlucky for particular endeavors, such as starting a business, moving houses or getting married.
     
  • Purple Star Astrology. This method is based on each person’s natal chart based on the time, day, month and year of birth. Once prepared by a professional astrologer, it can be consulted at any time of a person’s life.
     
  • Four Pillars of Destiny. This method, like the Purple Star, is based on a person’s natal chart, called “pillars.” These are converted to the five elements using the Ten Thousand Year Chinese Calendar.
     
• Electional  Electional astrology is a special type of divinatory, oracle astrology based on the "quality of the moment" at any given moment in time. It's believed by some folks that Electional astrology was originally developed especially for all those folks who don't know their exact time of birth. Electional astrology is a sub-class of horary astrology and it determines what time is best fitting to start some project, marriage, war and similar.
  
  Esoteric astrology is astrology of the soul. It uses natal charts to find out things about the spiritual conscience and spiritual development of a person.

The word astrology has a Greek origin. It is derived from the words ‘astron’-meaning star, and ‘logos’, meaning study or discipline. Although Astrology and Astronomy share a lot of common ground, yet the two subjects are different from each other. While Astronomy is the study and observation of the celestial bodies, Astrology studies their influence on primarily human beings and their nature.

The famous mathematician Tycho Brahe studied astrology so that “by looking upwards I see downward.” This aptly describes the role of astrology in our lives. The belief that the heavenly bodies exercise their impact on the habitants of the earth is very old. Initially it was based more upon observation and intuition. The movements and changes in the position of stars and planets had important portents for human beings on earth. While the beliefs and theories of astrological predictions were not scientifically tested or proved, there was a lot of consistency about them. With the passage of time and the advancement of scientific studies of the astronomical phenomena, the study of astrology started to establish itself as a legitimate field of study acquiring a scientific and mathematical bias, though psychic abilities, primarily intuition, still continue to play an important role in astrological predictions.

Another reason why the astrologers think that the stars and planets influence the course of human life is the belief that the whole universe is a one single unit and any change in a part of the whole has its impact on the remaining part too—“as above, so below.”

The main tool of astrology is the horoscope or a natal chart, which is prepared to study the ascendance and influence of planet at the time and day of a person’s birth. A horoscope consists of mainly an astrological chart, a diagrammatic representation of the position of stars at a given time and place and its impact on the life and nature of man. There are many words used synonymously for horoscope, including astro chart, star chart, astrological chart and so on, but they perform the same function.
